Can You Drink While Taking CBD? – CBD Instead

Can You Drink While Taking CBD?

Many medications prescribed today require the patient to stop drinking alcohol. It can be dangerous mixing alcohol with chemicals that alter your brain chemistry. While taking CBD, there hasn’t been studies confirming that the mix of the two is harmful, but instead it seems only to help.

If you drink alcohol while taking CBD, you might notice that it takes longer to feel drunk. Researchers have found that when taking CBD while consuming alcohol, you can lower your blood alcohol content. This news is excellent because it can reduce the possibility of alcohol poisoning and overconsumption.

In 2013, researchers used transdermal CBD patches on rodent models with alcohol-induced neurodegeneration. They found that the CBD significantly decreased the brain damage caused by the overconsumption of alcohol.

This interaction that CBD has with our brains doesn’t mean that you won't get drunk, and it especially doesn’t mean you can drink and drive. Researchers found in another study that CBD doesn’t improve functionality when intoxicated. The subjects who had alcohol and CBD were just as slow to respond as those who had alcohol by itself.

When you are taking CBD, you are also helping your reward system not get too excited when participating in activities like drinking alcohol. Cannabidiol has been used to help people with drug addiction because of its ability to mediate the transmissions in your brain. It can be easy to get carried away while you’re drinking, but taking CBD can help you have more self-control.

Alcohol consumption can also lead to buildup of fat in the liver from too much oxidative stress. In 2014 researchers published a study on rodent models who had alcohol-induced steatosis. They found that CBD protected the mice’s liver, as well as prevented the decrease in autophagy, a process necessary for your body to clean out debris.

  • That’s pretty awesome that it helps with your hangover and with your sleep. Thanks for giving us a good idea of how it works in the real world!

  • I take CBD regularly for anxiety, sleep issues, and for a general balanced emotional state. I also get drunk about once a week and noticed that when I get drunk, if I take 25mg -50mg of CBD it will help me sleep better and I’ll wake up with less of a hangover. However, it only reduces the negative side effects of alcohol by about 40%-50% and does not eliminate them altogether. I don’t smoke marijuana so those who smoke may need to take more CBD mg to get the desired effects.
