The amount of things you can do every day to benefit your health is a bit outrageous. Going on a walk can help with cardiovascular disease or depression while doing art can help with self-esteem and cognitive functions. We love doing things that can better our health, what we love even more is when these things are free and accessible. One activity that you can do in the comforts of your own home that can benefit your health is singing.

 

1. Singing Helps You Relax

Studies have shown that when you sing, the levels of stress hormones that are produces declines unless you are performing. This leads researchers to believe that by singing, you can improve your emotional wellbeing.

2. Singing Helps Boost Your Immune System

Studies have indicated that the chemical change in your brain that happens when you sing also plays a role in helping to boost your immune system. The stress hormones that are reduced cause inflammation, which scientists believe can be a hindrance to the immune system. The state that you reach when singing may be able to help with this inflammation which can lead to a stronger immune system.

3. Singing Can Help Seniors

The brain ages like the rest of our body, and many seniors struggle with standard activities because of it. Singing has shown in studies to help seniors with emotional and social health as well as helping with cognitive functions. Singing showed to help improve learning, recall, and memory. It is never too early or too late to start toning your brain the way you would your biceps, so get to singing!

How To Sing For Health

While you don’t have to be a professional to benefit from singing, being in an atmosphere with other singers may provide the best results. In studies, choral singing, as shown to give people a sense of community which is an added benefit to the health benefits of singing. Finding a choral group in your town or volunteering for a church choir if you are religious can be a great way to start singing toward a healthier tomorrow.
